Interior and Exterior Trims

It's the little things that often count the most. As Gold Coast Painters we know when it comes to painting it's the trims that bring the whole job together and create the finished look that our clients are after.

Imagine the exterior of a house with all the trims painted in the same colour as the house, how boring!!
The trims make the house so choosing the right accent colours for fascias, gutters, soffits etc is important. Don't forget that exterior paint has to be good quality to withstand the elements and that darker colours tend to fade quicker than lighter colours. Lighter colours don't absorb as much heat and light therefore last longer and need less maintenance.

Interior trims are just as important to the finished look. Interior trims are always painted in enamel as it's much more hard wearing and looks better with its shiny gloss finish.

Beautiful, glossy skirting boards, door frames, windows, cupboards or doors are the icing on the cake to transform a good paint job into something spectacular. I've seen it before, cutting corners by slapping on a bit of wall paint instead of enamel. For one it looks tacky and for two it scratches off.

It's official, for looks and durability you can't beat a beautifully enameled trim. For all your Gold Coast Painting needs contact us at Wow Painting and Decorating.

Painting On The Gold Coast - Choosing The Best Shade Of White Paint

As mentioned before neutral colours and especially white have been the main colours of choice for decorating with paint on the Gold Coast.

The reason is obvious, these paint colours are popular because they make a space seem larger and more open as well as being the perfect backdrop for furnishings and artwork. A feature wall will look great against the right white and timber against white can't be beaten. The other major draw card is that neutral colours won't date and can easily be made to look fresh by simply changing the colour of a feature wall or a new rug for example.

Wow Painting and Decorating only use the best quality paints and Dulux is the our number one choice. The most popular colours that we worked with through 2009 and up until now are of course the whites and neutrals being; Dulux Hog Bristle, Dulux Whisper White and Dulux Antique White USA.

Not all whites are the same so when people ask for white it's important to get the right white. Don't forget that white can be a cold sterile colour or warm and inviting. Have a look at the area to be painted and take note of how much natural light the room gets and at what time. Do you have big
windows or a space that gets no natural light at all. All this determines the choice of white paint to use.

It's best to use a white with more yellow tones in an area that has little natural light as this will create a warm feeling and reflect light more. If an area has artificial light such as fluorescents then that light will have more of a blue tone than yellow.

Most people lean towards the warmer whites in favour of the more crisp whites but if you have a lot of stainless steel and a minimalist look you'll want cleaner, cooler whites.

Once you have decided on the tone of white, warm or cool then choose two or three of those shades. Get some sample pots and apply at least two coats to a fair sized bit of cardboard and put them up during the day and at night under lights. You can move these samples around from room to room and against furniture to decide what you like best. At the end of the day it's up to you what you decide so go with your gut feeling.

Ceiling whites on the other hand should have no undertone therefore creating a neutral sky above which lifts the ceiling height. A ceiling white should be the whitest of whites.
